That Didn’t Exactly Work Out

So, it’s the end of May and we’ve heard nothing from HH’s job about the alleged transfer that could’ve taken place this month.

I guess the retiree was phantom. Or maybe he said, “sike! I was just playin’. I got five good years left in me.” Or maybe the yard master was just completely mistaken with his info and he doesn’t want to admit it now.

Either way, hubs still makes the 90+ minute trek. More wear and tear on the car and more cash out of our pockets.

We have A LOT to be thankful for this year, so we will be focused on that in the coming months. It just cooks my grits and sticks ’em to the pot that they dangled this carrot, and then snatched it away. Booooooooo.

  1. That does suck. We had a person who was going to retire. Since we were downsizing at the time, we “saved” a person to replace that Retiree. The Retiree totally said, “SIKE!” He has no idea when he will retire. Said he has a new girlfriend and is paying more.

Luckily we found a place for the worker when another person happen to find another job but Retiree messed up everyone’s plans!

What does HH do? Would he change jobs/companies to find something closer to home? That commute is crazy!

    • Changing jobs in a union environment means he’ll lose so much seniority. He is a train mechanic/welder. There are only two big freight companies here so his choices are limited. Until we get our house and get established, we can’t make job changes anyway. He’s got 7.5 years history with them so he’s trying to hang on.

And yeah, that retiree jacked up everyone’s plans at your job. LOL!

  2. That sucks. I hope something is worked out. Stallion is a mechanical engineer for a freight car company as well. They’re unioned as well. Losing seniority is no good, that’s why I’m still at my job.
