First Step

Because Mecklenburg County has decided to join the new millennium, I went online and completed our application for the marriage license. First step complete!

Now we just have to hit up the register of deeds in the next 30 days to provide ID and SSNs, and to pay our fee. Then once it’s issued, we have 60 days to get married.

I’m so glad to be moving forward with our plans to just elope and party later. It feels like the focus is back on us and our needs. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Definitely! We’ve talked a lot about what we want to do, but no action was ever taken. I decided we need to get married this fall because it’s my favorite time of the year. ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. YASS!!!!!! You know I support that 100%! We are gonna throw a party for our first anniversary. Much cheaper to plan a “party” instead of a “wedding” or “reception.” Keeping the focus on you and HH is all that’s important. Did you put a countdown widget on your phone? I did one after we got our license. Only NINE days to go!!

    • There’s a countdown widget? Do tell! I think, since there’s no waiting period, we’re going to get the license and see the magistrate all on the same day. I need to find his ring.

    • I’m not quite sure why everyone considers this a “rush.” we’ve been together since March 2010 and engaged since March 2012. The only reason we had the wedding date a year out was when we considered doing a full ceremony, which requires money that we don’t readily have on hand. Thus, time to save and pay the expenses.

We’re six months post engagement and moving forward with a civil ceremony, period. Nobody’s pregnant. We want to be married and start our lives together as a married couple. That’s pretty much it. ๐Ÿ™‚
